Abigail Gewirtz, Ph.D., L.P., is a child psychologist and Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Minnesota where she teaches and conducts research at the Institute of Child Development, and the Department of Psychology.

Dr. Gewirtz is also Director of Research at Twin Cities-based Tubman Family Alliance, one of the largest family violence resource agencies in the country, and project director for the Minnesota Child Response Initiative, a multi-disciplinary preventive intervention for children exposed to violence.

Dr. Gewirtz’s research focuses on parenting, resilience, and the prevention of psychopathology among children exposed to domestic violence, homelessness and other traumatic stressors.

Formerly Director of Operations for the National Center for Children Exposed to Violence at Yale University’s Child Study Center, Dr. Gewirtz has extensive experience in clinical and policy work with children and families exposed to violence, and in the provision of training and technical assistance to communities across the USA implementing multi-system efforts to intervene with children exposed to violence.

She has written and has presented widely at both the local and national level on prevention and intervention for high-risk children affected by violence.
